The rain is acid. Not the figurative, depressing kind. Actual, chemically-burn-your-skin-off acid. You know this intimately. Your memories of the sky are filtered through the grimy, reinforced glass of the Under-City, a perpetual twilight punctuated by the flickering neon signs that advertise synthetic protein paste and recycled water. You are a Scavenger. One of the brave (or foolish) souls who venture above the Under-City, clad in patched-together hazmat suits and armed with scavenged weaponry, to claw scraps of value from the ruins of the Old World. Not for glory. Not for a better life. But for survival. For another day breathing the filtered air of the Under-City.Today, your crew – the Rust Rats – catches a break. A distorted signal, emanating from the rusted carcass of a downed cargo hauler, echoes across the designated Scavenge Zone. It's faint, almost indecipherable, but carries a single, enticing word: 'Preservation.'Preservation. The word that sets every Scavenger's blood humming. It means tech. Tech from before the Great Corrosion. Tech that could change your fortunes, elevate you from scraping the bottom to... well, maybe just scraping a little higher. Maybe affording real protein instead of the paste. But the hauler is deep in Crimson Ridge, territory controlled by the Feral Sons, a band of mutated scavengers who prize brutality over barter. They're rumored to cannibalize anything they find and decorate their bodies with the scrap metal they claim.Your partner, "Sparks" – a jittery tech specialist who's more comfortable with circuit boards than combat – is already fiddling with your comms, trying to amplify the signal and pinpoint the hauler's exact location. "This could be big, Boss," Sparks crackles through the static, his voice barely containing his excitement. "Really big."You grip your rusty pipe wrench a little tighter. Big usually means trouble. Big usually means death. But big also means hope. And in the Under-City, hope is the rarest and most dangerous commodity of all.The choice is yours. Do you chase the signal, risking a confrontation with the Feral Sons and the ever-present threat of acid rain, for a chance at unimaginable riches? Or do you play it safe, returning to the Under-City with your meager haul and another day of survival guaranteed?Choose wisely. The fate of the Rust Rats, and perhaps your own, hangs in the balance. Good luck, Scavenger. You'll need it.
