The stale, metallic tang of recycled air fills your lungs. You squint, pushing yourself up from the cold, durasteel floor. Disorientation claws at the edges of your consciousness. Your head throbs, a dull, rhythmic ache echoing the hum of the ancient generator somewhere deep within the station. You are designated Unit 734, but your memory banks whisper a forgotten nickname: "Ghost." Doesn't matter now. Protocol overrides everything.Your mission, as outlined in the rapidly flooding data stream, is simple: Restore power to Sector Gamma-Nine. Simple, yes. But the operative word is "restore." Meaning, something, or someone, cut the damn power in the first place. And given the state of this derelict space station, orbiting a black hole known only as 'The Maw', you can bet it wasn't a squirrel gnawing on the wires. The station, the 'Icarus Station', was once a beacon of scientific advancement, a hub for studying the unique gravitational phenomena around The Maw. Now, it's a rusted tomb. The holographic displays are cracked, showing corrupted fragments of scientific logs and panicked emergency broadcasts. The corridors are littered with debris, the metallic tang in the air hinting at blood long since dried.Your augmented reality HUD flickers to life, showing a schematic of the station, highlighting the path to the primary power relay. But as you take your first tentative step, a chilling static crackles through your internal comms."Unit 734," a raspy, distorted voice cuts through the silence. "Or should I say, Ghost? Did you really think they wouldn't tell me? They're all so predictable."The voice laughs, a dry, hacking sound that sends shivers down your spine. "You think you're here to fix the power? You're not. You're here to die. Just like the rest of them."The HUD glitches, the schematic blurring as the voice continues, "Let's play a game, shall we, Ghost? A game of survival. See if you can make it to the power core before I decide to… rearrange the station a little. After all, what's a little fun for the manipulator, is a lot of pain for the manipulated, hmm?"The voice fades, leaving you alone in the chilling silence of the Icarus Station. You know one thing: restoring power is now secondary. Your primary objective is to survive. And to figure out who – or what – is hunting you. Good luck, Ghost. You'll need it.
